Sensate accepts applications for positions once a year on FEBRUARY 1, in the following areas: Editor/Producers, Web Design/Programming, Media and Outreach. Responsibilities include: ensuring that two rounds of material are published each year, conducting internal reviews of submitted work, organize and facilitate the (external) peer review process, and communicating with potential contributors, peer reviewers, and advisory committee as needed. All editor/producers are expected to contribute to the production of at least two published pieces over the course of one year. This entails collaborating with contributing authors/artists/producers to develop creative solutions to the display and navigation of each piece, aiding contributors in the use of Zeega (if they choose to use it), monitoring metadata and citations for accuracy, communicating with our programmers and designers about the needs of a specific piece. Sensate also publishes reviews of books, films, exhibitions, performances, etc. A few editor/producers will help with the reviews editing (which includes putting out calls for reviews, vetting submissions, communicating with reviewers, maintaining a production schedule). Basic web skills and some experience with audio/visual media are recommended. A flair for the experimental and an eye for aesthetics are a plus! The time commitment for this position will vary slightly based on production schedules, but will be consistently 10+ hours of work per week.
Web designers and programmers are responsible for a range of technical needs including setting up automatic newsletters and list-serves, offering design advice on navigational decisions of individual pieces (as necessary), custom web design (as necessary), web development, and programming. Web designers/programmers are also encouraged to develop (whether in collaboration with editor/producers or individually) new possibilities for media-based scholarship. Web design, development and programming experience a must. The time commitment for this position will vary based on contributor needs, but will be consistently 5+ hours of work per week, with more during peak publication times.
Media and Outreach
Media and Outreach team members oversee all matters of publicity which includes sending out CFP’s, managing the announcements in the newsletters, setting up the RSS feeds, maintaining the blog, facebook page, twitter account, and other social networking, helping to recruit new members, etc. Media and Outreach will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and securing funding for Sensate’s “offline” events (i.e. workshops, seminars, exhibitions, etc.). The time commitment for this position will vary greatly based on event schedules, but will be consistently 5+ hours of work per week.
